As of Saturday, January 28, 2023, a GoFundMe organized for Massachusetts man Patrick Clancy has raised over $500,000 of a goal of $700,000.
The fundraiser was started to help Patrick Clancy pay for “medical bills, funeral services and legal assistance” following a shocking attempted murder-suicide allegedly carried out by his wife, Lindsay Clancy, who survived the incident.
On Tuesday, January 24, after Patrick Clancy left his home to pick up a takeout order, Lindsay Clancy allegedly killed two of her children before attempting to strangle her baby. Subsequently, Lindsay Clancy jumped from the second story window of her house in a failed suicide attempt.
The deceased children are 5-year-old Cora Clancy and 3-year-old Dawson Clancy. The surviving child, 8-month-old Calen Clancy, is currently in critical condition at Children’s Hospital Boston.
A community tries to support Patrick Clancy
On the GoFundMe page, fundraiser organizer Matthew Glaser rallied netizens and Bostonians in support of Patrick Clancy.
glasser wrote:
“On behalf of Clancy’s extended family, we invite you to offer your support to Patrick as he goes through an unimaginable tragedy. We appreciate his thoughts, prayers and support.”
He added that due to the traumatic nature of the incident, the father would not be working for an extended period. He wrote:
“This help is especially needed because Pat will not be able to work for the foreseeable future while coping with this painful and life-changing tragedy (…) We all know that Pat is the kindest and most genuine person. As someone who is always ready to support to others, we sincerely thank you for offering yours.”
The incident shocked many other members of the community, such as the Reverend of Duxbury Robert J Deehan, who organized a vigil to commemorate the children who died in the incident.
Deehan said of the incident:
“All of us here at Duxbury are beyond devastated and heartbroken by the news of what happened to this young family. Prior to these tragic events, they were a happy and loving couple and family.”
Deehan added that he was praying for Lindsay Clancy, who had suffered from postpartum anxiety. The children’s aunt, Donna Jesse, mourned her death in an interview with NBC Boston.
jesse said:
“They were just beautiful, beautiful children. Well cared for, they were just beautiful, that’s all.”
Massachusetts General, the hospital where Lindsay Clancy worked as a nurse, also issued a statement.
The hospital reported:
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of this unthinkable tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by these devastating events.”
Lindsay Clancy, who was hospitalized in the aftermath of the incident, was charged with two counts of murder, three counts of strangulation, and three counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
