Starling Marte announced in an Instagram post on Monday, May 18, 2020, that his wife, Noelia, died suddenly of a heart attack. Noelia Marte’s cause of death was a heart attack. Marte wrote: “Today I go through the great pain of making public the unfortunate death of my wife Marte, due to a heart attack. It is a moment of the indescribable pain. On behalf of my family, I am grateful for the expressions of esteem and solidarity at this difficult time.”

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, Noelia had recently broken her ankle and was in the hospital awaiting surgery when she suffered the heart attack. Heyman tweeted: “Starling Marte’s wife died unexpectedly today [May 18, 2020]. She broke her ankle and was in the hospital and said to be awaiting surgery when she passed. Best wishes to Starling, who just announced the death.”
The D-Backs said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Noelia. Starling and his family are part of the D-backs’ family and we will do all we can to support him and their children during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Pirates released a statement saying: “The entire Pirates family extend our deepest condolences to Starling Marte and family during this terrible time. Our hearts are truly saddened by this news.”
