The distraught mother of a Long Island woman who mysteriously disappeared while traveling across the country with her boyfriend said Monday that she is convinced her daughter will return home. I think a mother’s instinct is the most powerful, ”Nicole Schmidt said during a press conference at her attorney’s office. “I think she will come home.”
It was last known that 22-year-old Gabby Petito was at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming late last month with her boyfriend, identified on social media as Brian Laundrie. Schmidt said the family has not heard from her daughter since. Schmidt said Laundrie and her daughter attended high school together and then “rekindled” their relationship, and had been living together in Florida for two and a half years.
She declined to confirm reports that the two were engaged. The last time she posted a photo of herself on her Instagram account was on August 25. Her profile links to an 8-minute YouTube video posted on August 19, showing her and a man embarking on their “van life journey” in the United States.
