Nicolai Bogdan Lungan Wiki – Nicolai Bogdan Lungan Biography
Nicolai Bogdan Lungan accepted an offer of €6,000 (around £5,200) in February this year to drive a van of asylum seekers in hiding from Belgium to the UK. A Romanian human trafficker who locked four Vietnamese teenagers in a “coffin-like” space on the roof of his truck has been jailed for three years.
He traveled by ferry from Dunkirk to Dover with children locked inside his Romanian-registered Renault Master. When Lungan arrived at the Kent port, Border Force officers noticed that the roof over the driver was covered with padding material and was unusually hot.
They quickly stopped him and removed the material, revealing a hatch in the roof of the van that led to a hideout where they found four 17-year-olds. The migrants were found lying on bare metal in the narrow and insufficiently ventilated roof hatch, which had been bolted shut with power tools.

The children had no way of escaping the hideout without help. When questioned by officers, Lungan claimed that he was traveling to Glasgow to collect furniture that he intended to take to Romania to open a hairdressing salon.
He was jailed for three years at Canterbury Crown Court for aiding illegal immigration to the UK. Chris Foster, deputy director of Criminal and Financial Investigations at the Home Office, said the migrants were held in “appalling conditions”.
He said: ‘I hope this sentence sends a powerful message that breaking the law and putting people’s lives at risk will not go unpunished. “My team works tirelessly to disrupt this type of illegal activity and we will continue to take action against those who endanger people’s lives for the sake of making money.”

Last year, ten people were sentenced after 39 Vietnamese men, women, and children were found dead in a truck trailer near Dartford Crossing. Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said: “These criminal and life-threatening attempts to smuggle people, including children, into the UK in these incredibly cramped, coffin-like spaces are absolutely abhorrent and we will not tolerate it.”
‘I would like to commend our immigration officers who are working around the clock to prevent this activity and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“No one should risk their life to come to the UK illegally, and today’s case sends a clear message to smuggling gangs that they will feel the full weight of the law.”
