Natalie Broussard was initially charged with negligent manslaughter and later accused of murder in the second degree, when a grand jury indicted her in July 2021, according to Arkadia Advocate. Louisiana police say they have captured a woman who fled after being charged with murder in connection with the death in a hot car of her son.

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, the Lafayette Parish Coroner confirmed that 2-year-old Ryatt Hensley died of heatstroke in September 2019.The boy was found dead after sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Duson, on the block. 6900 Cameron Street at 1:50 p.m., amid reports of an unresponsive child in a car.

Authorities were looking for Broussard earlier this week, but Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that she was found and detained on Wednesday. The sheriff’s office did not provide additional details on where Broussard was found or information about the arrest.

According to No Heat Stroke, Ryatt was the 23 of 25 children who died in a hot car in 2020. In 2019, 52 children died from vehicular heatstroke.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Natalie has been located and detained. She was arrested Wednesday night. On Monday, LPSO asked the public for help locating Broussard.

Broussard was charged with second-degree murder charges in the death of her 2-year-old son Ryatt Hensley, who was found dead inside a vehicle parked in a residential area on September 27. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the death in the 6900 block of Cameron Street in Duson and initially arrested Broussard on a wrongful death charge.
