A Conservative MP, Mark Francois, has been arrested on charges of assault and other sexual offenses committed over seven years. “A man was held in doubt about a horrific assault, rape, assaul, abuse of trust and misconduct in public office,” a Metropolitan Police statement said.

In the meantime, the government’s Whips office released the statement: “While an investigation is underway, the Chief Whip has said the MP referred to is not going to the parliamentary booth. We will not be making any additional comments until the exam is completed.”
