Mark Brennan Family
Mr Brennan’s mother, Marjorie, 69, said: ‘He’s been found and that’s very upsetting. We’re waiting for the results of an autopsy.’
The solo adventurer had travelled 1,120 miles since its final sighting, and the Jamaican coastguard was alerted to the presence of a British-flagged vessel by colleagues in the US.
Death of Cause
THE naked body of a window cleaner trying to sail solo around the world has been found on his yacht. The “inexperienced” sailor’s 30ft Avrio vessel was finally spotted drifting 71 miles off Jamaica on Monday.
Coastguards found a naked and decomposed body in the hull. The boat was towed to Port Antonio where Jamaican cops launched a probe.
Mr Brennan, of South Shields, initially sailed across the Atlantic for Barbados. He then headed to Grenada, where he was seen leaving on December 6.
A shocked neighbour said: “I can’t understand how he’s been found in a boat off Jamaica. I always knew him as a window cleaner, he never mentioned any interest in yachting.
“He lived alone apart from his big bull mastiff. You don’t get many round-the-world sailors from this estate.”
‘The coast monitor reached us about the vessel and after individuals from our power entered the pontoon we found an inert male body in there,’ a resistance power official said.
‘We shipped the body on to land and the issue is currently being researched by the nearby police. An after death will be conveyed to set up the reason for death.’
Northumbria Police said yesterday: ‘A conventional recognizable proof procedure is continuous yet it is associated that the body is that with the South Shields man.’
Neighborhood police will currently decide if any treachery was included. Coastguards found a breaking down body in the structure and towed it into the Errol Flynn Marina in Port Antonio, where police have begun an examination.
