Mario Henderson was an American football offensive tackle. He spent the first four years of his career with the Oakland Raiders, after being selected from Florida State in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Henderson originally attended Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, FL. Henderson was a 375-pound freshman who’d never played football. His first year of football was his Freshman year. He also played varsity in the 2000-2001 season at Verot.
After his sophomore year, Henderson transferred to Lehigh Senior High School. Due to transfer rules, he was not able to play during his junior year. He used that time to change his physique and, in his senior year, earned a scholarship to Florida State University. His senior year, he averaged 28 points per game and 14 rebounds and was 1st team all-state and 1st team all-county as a member of the Lehigh Senior basketball team.
After starting only one year his senior year, Henderson was selected by the Raiders in the third round of the 2007 draft. In his second year, he started several games at left tackle in place of injured veteran Kwame Harris and was the Raiders’ full-time left tackle in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Henderson signed with the San Diego Chargers on April 12, 2012.

Mario Henderson Death
Mario Henderson, who played four seasons for the then-Oakland Raiders, died Wednesday according to the Fort Myers News-Press.
A one-year starter at Florida State, Henderson was taken in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft and was plugged in as the starter at left tackle in his second year with the Raiders. He ended up appearing in four NFL seasons with the Raiders and also spent time with the San Diego Chargers.

The Raiders soon released their own statement reacting to Henderson’s death:
The Raiders Family is heavy-hearted following the passing of Mario Henderson, who was a third-round draft pick and played four seasons with the Silver and Black. Everyone will miss Mario’s sense of humor and passion for football and life. The prayers of the entire Raider Nation are with Mario’s family and loved ones at this time.
After his pro football career, Henderson was most recently working with special needs students at Dunbar High School in Fort Myers, Florida, and working as an assistant coach on the football team, per the News-Press. He earned his degree from Florida State via online classes in 2018.
The team announced Henderson’s death Wednesday. There was no cause of death given.
“Everyone will miss Mario’s sense of humor and passion for football and life,” the Las Vegas Raiders said in a statement. “The prayers of the entire Raider Nation are with Mario’s family and loved ones at this time.”
