Marinus Iwuchukwu Wiki, Biography

Marinus Iwuchukwu and his wife were found dead at a home on Thorncrest Drive in Pennsylvania’s Wilkins Township in what police suspect is a murder-suicide carried out by the latter. Iwuchukwu, 59, a professor at Duquesne University, is believed to have been stabbed to death by his wife, who later killed herself with a gun.

The Allegheny County Police Department said in a statement that officers arrived at Iwuchukwu’s home around 10 a.m. m. on January 17, 2023. A third party reportedly informed them of a “domestic violent” confrontation at the home.

SWAT officers had to be brought in to break into Marinus Iwuchukwu’s house.

Lt. Venerando Costa, an official with the Allegheny County Police Department, said the third party had somehow found out that the professor had been stabbed. He added that his wife of 50 years, Charce Dunn, was found inside the home with a firearm. Iwuchukwu worked as a professor at Duquesne University.

Costa added that local police stations had not contacted the Iwuchukwu family. Receiving no response from the teacher or his wife, they had to call the SWAT team to break into the house.

Inside, the agents found the bodies of Marinus Iwuchukwu and his wife. Both reportedly had stab wounds, while Charce had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Marinus Iwuchukwu was an associate professor of theology

The official Duquesne University website shows that Marinus Iwuchukwu was an assistant professor of theology at the institution. The professor, originally from Nigeria, had a doctorate in systematic theology. He earned a graduate degree in journalism from Marquette University.

At Duquesne, Iwuchukwu’s specialization was in media and religion, interfaith dialogue, and religious pluralism.

Dean of McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts, Duquesne University, Dr. Kristine L. Blair, said (quoted by the Catholic Theological Society of America) regarding the death of her colleague:

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the death of Dr. Marinus Iwuchukwu, Associate Professor of Theology, who had taught in the Department of Theology since 2008.”
Blair added that Iwuchukwu was the former chair of the Department and an internationally recognized expert on interfaith dialogue and even inclusive religious pluralism.

Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani tweeted about the professor’s death and demanded a full investigation into it.

Duquesne Duke spoke with a neighbor, Carl Mosley, who referred to Iwuchukwu as a “notable neighbor.”
