A man has been arrested on suspicion of extorting television presenter Alison Hammond. On Saturday night, the 36-year-old man was arrested at a house in Warwickshire, according to West Midlands Police.
According to a report by The Sun, the This Morning presenter, 48, has paid out significant sums of money after being a victim.
The Birmingham-born celebrity allegedly received threats that she would be slandered if she did not comply with their requests.
According to police, the suspect remains in jail for questioning.
Previously, West Midlands Police said investigations into the alleged blackmail were progressing rapidly.
The force said in a statement,
“We are investigating an accusation of blackmail against a woman in her forties.”
We take these reports very seriously.
In 2002, the presenter rose to fame as a contestant on the third season of Big Brother.
In 2020, she was named co-presenter of This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary on Fridays.
2010 and 2014 also saw appearances on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Strictly Come Dancing, respectively.
Alison Hammond was revealed as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off last week, replacing Matt Lucas.
She also hosted the 2023 Baftas alongside actor Richard E. Grant.
