After a seven-hour standoff, a suspect came forward in the New Jersey case. Malik Moore, 45, turned himself in Sunday night in Guttenberg after breaking into a stranger’s home. Around 9 a.m., according to police, Moore allegedly struck a pedestrian with a stolen vehicle.
Then, according to police, Moore entered a house on 70th Street with a knife and attacked one of its occupants. When the policemen surrounded the house and Moore barricaded himself inside, all the residents were able to flee. After hours of discussions, the SWAT team was able to capture Moore. He was taken to a medical center for a checkup.
The police report did not elaborate on the severity of the injuries Moore is accused of. Moore is also accused of attacking a second bystander before sneaking him into the house where he assaulted a tenant. He was holding a knife, according to police.
Officers once escorted neighbors, including two women with young children, out of harm’s way. According to police, the car that was in the collision was stolen in West Orange.
