Luke Morgan Tyler, a 19-year-old Washington State University freshman, was found dead on January 22, 2023 in his dorm room. As the police department investigates the case, Chief Gary Lee Jenkins said in a statement that the investigation found no evidence of foul play at the scene. However, WSU students suspect otherwise and have also filed an online petition to indict those responsible for this incident.
Meanwhile, Jenkins in a statement said:
“It is premature to reach a conclusion as to the cause and manner of death. We are working with the Whitman County Coroner’s Office to investigate the circumstances.”

Erin Lasher, deputy director of the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, reportedly said that Luke Morgan Tyler was a member of the Greek community at WSU.
Shortly after that, Tyler’s school friend confirmed that he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. Following this, students at the school submitted an online petition calling for an investigation of the fraternity. According to the petition, so far 9,119 have signed it as of this writing.
It was mentioned in the petition:
“On January 22, 2023, Luke Tyler was found dead in his dormitory at Washington State University. His death directly followed a long and cruel commitment process allowed by his fraternity, theta chi. His inhumane and cruel hazing forced Luke and many others to do things that no one should be forced to do We demand that Theta Chi be investigated, shut down and the president of the fraternity as well as pledge teachers and other people with power in the fraternity be investigated for their involvement in the death of Luke Tyler”.
The petition further stated:
“Luke was truly an incredible person with an incredible effect on everyone whose life he touched, he deserves justice. Please sign to raise awareness for our cause and help bring this issue to WSU’s attention so those responsible see appropriate consequences and to help prevent anyone else from being hurt.”
The students also asked for people’s support if they could donate a little to help the family of Luke Morgan Tyler in these difficult times.

Luke’s friends at WSU are raising funds on GoFundMe to help his family through this difficult time. The students managed to complete their goal of raising $10k and notably raised over the goal as they received $10,968 through 197 donations.
