Lucas Brewer & Anthony Nagore Body Found in Connecticut river

Investigators on Monday located the bodies of two teenagers who disappeared in the swollen Farmington River Thursday after going swimming, police said. The two teens, Anthony Nagore, 17, and Lucas Brewer, 15, were reported missing by the family when they did not return home as expected. Nagore and Brewer are believed to have gone swimming on the Avon side of the river Thursday afternoon.

Searchers saw the teens’ bodies Monday afternoon as they searched the riverbank; the rapid movement of the waters made it too dangerous to send a diving team into the river to search for them.

A spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection police force said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner would pinpoint how the teens died. He urged people to avoid waterways that have become more dangerous due to the sharp increase in rainfall in recent weeks, which has led to water levels being six to seven times higher than usual.

“It’s very dangerous to be out there,” said Capt. Keith Williams of DEEP’s EnCon Police. “We ask everyone who recreates not only in this river but in any body of water in the state of Connecticut that is swollen right now due to the rain, please stay away from the water, we do not want another to happen. an incident like this. This is a very unfortunate situation. The level of the river is very dangerous, it will continue to rise for the next few days, so conditions are going to get worse.

“Just give it a little time, please, that’s what we’re asking you to do. Just stay out of the water right now, it’s not worth the risk.”

As Williams spoke, hundreds of mourners gathered near the scene and held a vigil to remember the teens. Cars filled a parking lot near Route 4. Most of the attendees were teenagers. Brewer’s mom was present and held a hand-drawn photo of her son to her chest.

“In the summer you’re supposed to have fun and I just think they were having fun like good friends and trying to have fun,” said Lucy Lopez, whose daughter, Theresa, attends Plainville High. She added that young people often go swimming in that part of the Farmington River.

“So for a kid to say ‘Mom, I’m going to go do this,’ it’s like, ‘OK. You’ve done it a million times, ‘” said Michelle Ibitz, another mother present whose youngest daughter knew the children. “And sadly, with the way the weather was and the water flowing, it was that unfortunate event.”

A spokesperson for the Brewer family read a message from Lucas Brewer’s brother. He said: “The pain never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Pain is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith, but it is a great price of love. ”

Search efforts by the teens began Thursday night. Environmental conservation police, state police, and local officials joined the search for water using sonar, police dogs on the ground, and drones in the sky. After a fervent rescue effort, authorities said the task had turned into search and recovery work. Searches over the weekend were repeatedly suspended due to dangerous conditions on the river.
