Five years after that sentence in 2017, Anderson was released from prison again, but his sentence also included two decades of probation. Anderson violated that probation by possessing a weapon and using PCP and cocaine; he was jailed the same year for his 20th birthday. Despite this, the Oklahoma Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended a commutation, and Governor Kevin Stitt (R) approved it in 2020, with fatal consequences. The commutation occurred just a year after Anderson’s initial application was denied by the Parole Board.
