The Butler Township Police Department has launched an investigation after a video of two officers beating a black woman went viral online. In the video, one of the policemen can be seen violently beating the lady while she was arresting her on Monday, January 16, 2023.

The video surfaced on Tuesday, January 17, when local media shared footage on Facebook. The woman has been identified as Latinka Hancock, and the two officers have been identified as Tim Zellers and Sgt. Todd Stanley. After punching Latinka in her face, the officers pinned her against her car while Tim Zellers put her in handcuffs.

Authorities have stated that the officers’ body camera footage will be released to the public after a “departmental review” is conducted. The incident was revealed to have occurred after Latinka Hancock attempted to rectify an incorrect order with McDonald’s. Her employees allegedly ended up calling the police on her.

A simple dispute over not having extra cheese at McDonald’s Big Mac escalated into a hostile confrontation between an African-American woman and two Ohio police officers.

Supposedly, Latinka Hancock was filing a complaint about some problems with her Big Mac, which she bought at the McDonald’s store. The employees called the police after they got into a heated argument.

According to WDTN, Hancock refused to provide her officers with her identity, after which the situation escalated. Video captured by a bystander showed officers dragging Latinka by her arms and allegedly strangling her. She was seen trying to break free from the officers.

She was later seen arguing with the Ohio police. Zellers was seen pointing a stun gun at Latinka Hancock while another officer, Stanley, held her by her shoulders and arms. Shortly after this, Sgt. Stanley hit her in the face about four times. She then held her against the police car and the two officers handcuffed her.

Officers Posted on Paid Administrative Leave: Butler Township Police Chief

At a press conference on Wednesday, January 18, Butler Township Police Chief John Porter said the officers are on paid administrative leave. It was also revealed that the Butler Township Police Department received many hate messages and emails after the incident. porter said,

“The administrative investigation will include interviews and statements from any and all possible witnesses, including the other officers who were involved. If inappropriate conduct is found as a result of the investigation, the findings will include a recommendation for disciplinary action.”

Porter further explained the intensity of force Butler Township police officers were trained to use in certain situations. However, he did not comment on whether the officer’s actions were appropriate.

In the footage, Latinka is seen cooperating with them. However, she refused to say her name. Shortly after that, she was arrested for allegedly resisting her arrest.

According to Latinka Hancock, she paid an extra 30 cents for extra cheese on her Big Mac, but she didn’t get it. She asked the employees for the extra cheese, who told her she had to pay 30 cents again. It was then that the argument began and the employees asked him to leave the food hall. hancock said,

“All I wanted that woman to do was follow the instructions I didn’t give her, that her manager gave her. I want the sandwich or my money. Did you know that she was going to be attacked? Not.”

She reportedly decided to wait for her sandwich in the restaurant’s parking lot. However, Butler Township police officers approached her.

Describing the incident as “incredibly sad”, Latinka’s lawyer, Michael Wright, said:

“[The police] did nothing or address any of this until the video went viral… None of this was reasonable. This was out of line.”

Wright further stated that Hancock suffered a concussion and blood on his face and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
