Larry was a standout for the Tar Heels in the early 1960s, but he was deemed too short to play in the NBA. He began his post-college career with the Akron Wingfoots of the NABL, where he played for two years (1964-1965).

Larry finished his playing career as the ABA’s all-time assist leader. His 2,509 assists rank him seventh on the ABA’s career list. As a result, with 23 assists in a game, he owns the ABA record. As a result, he was named an ABA All-Star three times.

Larry has a career coaching record of 1,275-965 in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). In addition, he is the first coach in NBA history to have led eight different clubs to the playoffs.
