Kyra Haley Wiki – Kyra Haley Biography

Kyra Haley was granted an order evicting her 26-year-old husband, Dallas Haley, from their Harrisburg home, but she later called court officials to get them to drop it ahead of a Sept. 16 hearing, PennLive.com reported.

Four days after the scheduled proceeding, police said Dallas Haley, who had been previously convicted twice of assault for abusing his wife, shot the mother of four in their home. Haley had to grow up without a mother after losing her to a form of heart disease when she was just 12 years old.

So when Kyra eventually had children of her own, she made them her top priority. Keeping her family together was important to Kyra, even as she struggled against domestic abuse, friends and family say.

“I know she just wanted what the three of us always did,” said Kori Seiler, Kyra’s sister, and one of three siblings who lost their mom. “To have a family and keep it whole.”

But Haley’s devotion wasn’t rewarded. Instead, police say, her husband fatally shot her about 1:45 a.m. Oct. 20 in their home in the 2900 block of Rumson Drive. Police charged Dallas Haley, 26, with criminal homicide after they say he confessed to owning a gun and shooting Kyra. He remains in jail.

As it turns out, Kyra Haley had been considering leaving her husband in recent months, according to court records. Victim advocates say that can be the most dangerous time in an abusive relationship.

Kyra told a cousin in April that she was tired of the arguments, abuse and accusations from her unemployed husband.

“I don’t know what to do,” she wrote in a text message, shared with PennLive by Seiler. “He will literally tell me he’ll kill me and my kids if I ever try to leave.”

Kyra Haley Age

Kyra Haley was 24 years old.

Suspect

Dallas Haley, from their Harrisburg home, but she later called court officials to get them to drop it ahead of a Sept. 16 hearing, PennLive.com reported. Haley remains jailed on a criminal homicide charge and investigators said he confessed to shooting Kyra and to owning a gun, the outlet reported.

Kyra Haley had earlier confided to a relative in April that she planned to leave her husband because of the abuse. She also wrote in her petition for the protection order that she feared the worst following a Sept. 3 incident that left glass shattered in their home.

Cause of Death

Dallas Haley allegedly punched their closet door Sept. 3, breaking the glass and leaving shards everywhere, according to the petition for the order. “He said he would do the same thing to me,” Kyra wrote in the petition. “I don’t feel safe with him.”

She said in her petition that she planned to seek a divorce.

A judge granted the order evicting Dallas from their home, but nine days later, Kyra Haley called the court and asked them to drop the order before a scheduled Sept. 16 hearing. It’s unclear what changed her mind.

“I know there were nights she cried to him and opened herself to him regarding the pain of losing our mother,” Kori Seiler said. “What kills all of us in the family is he knew how she felt and he does the same to his children?”

Kyra leaves behind four children, from 11 months old to 7 years old. She lived for her children and simply wanted a peaceful, family life, according to friends.

“She was an amazing mom,” Kori Seiler said. “Those children were always clean and full.”

Kyra was known as being reserved in front of people she didn’t know very well, but kind, sweet and hilarious to those who knew her well. Seiler said Kyra’s kindness is evident in her children, who are now being kept by family members.

“They are the warmest, loving most well-behaved babies I’ve ever met,” she said. “I will do what I can to my fullest extent to be the closest thing I can to a mom to them.”

Kyra and Dallas married in February 2016 at a Dauphin County magisterial district judge’s office. The abuse was documented shortly thereafter, according to court records.

One night in September 2016, police were called to their home in the 300 block of Muench Street. Kyra reported that it was Dallas’ birthday and he was getting drunk with his friends. He then started making accusations at her, and following her around the house to get her cell phone from her hands. She tried to get away from him, according to court records, but he punched her in the face, kicked her in the ribs and spit in her face in front of his friends. She got away from him and escaped to the second floor of the house, but he followed her into her daughter’s room. The girl was 3 at the time. He used a knife to cut the girl’s hat, then threw it at the child. “Here you go. Here’s your hat,” he reportedly said.

He then put the knife against Kyra’s forehead as the child was sitting on her lap, crying. Dallas pushed the girl off Kyra’s lap, took Kyra’s phone, walked away and stabbed the knife into the door, according to court records. He then smashed Kyra’s phone on the ground outside.

Two months later, while Dallas was out on bail for the first charge, police again were called to the address on Muench Street by a case management worker.

The worker said Dallas Haley had torn up the house, claiming his Xanax pills were missing. He was supposed to be attending a program at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute every day but did not go on that day because of his lost medication.

Dallas Haley claimed someone had hidden his Xanax from him so he turned over all the furniture and threw household items outside. Police convinced him to go to a hospital, but then Dallas changed his mind, according to court records. He started picking up compact discs outside on the ground and throwing them back into his home, but officers warned him not to step back into the home.

Arrested

When he crossed the threshold of the door, officers restrained him and he struggled with officers, trying to throw punches, according to court records. He was handcuffed, and later shackled after he tried to bite an officer, the records said.

Kyra told police Dallas had threatened to beat her up and “put her in the hospital,” if she didn’t help him find his pills.

After each assault, Dallas spent about a month in jail before his bond was reduced. Common Pleas Judge Deborah Curcillo eventually gave Dallas one year of probation for both assault cases.

Charges

Officers interviewed him in July 2019 and he said he was trying to buy a low-caliber shotgun for “personal defense.” He said he “has three kids and lives in the projects and he believed he was eligible to purchase the firearm since he was no longer on probation,” according to court records.

He pleaded guilty to a second-degree misdemeanor for unsworn falsification to authorities on Sept. 14, just days after Kyra dropped the PFA order against him.

Police would not say what gun was used to kill Kyra. But Dallas was ordered not to have access to firearms as a condition of his guilty plea last month. He also was supposed to comply with case management workers and get involved in a 12-step program with Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous.

In light of the killing, friends and family of Kyra said they want to keep the focus on Kyra and her children, not the defendant. They launched an online fundraiser to help with funeral costs and expenses for the children.

Investigation Report

Investigators have not indicated what firearm was used in Kyra’s slaying, but Dallas Haley was barred from having them as a condition of his guilty plea, PennLive.com reported.
