Kim Goddard Wiki – Biography

Kim Goddard / Kimberly Goddard is the well-known daughter of Dick Goddard. He was an American television meteorologist, author, cartoonist, and animal activist. For over five decades, he served as the evening meteorologist at WJW-TV, the Fox Broadcasting Company-affiliated television station in Cleveland, Ohio. He holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career as a weather forecaster after passing Canadian meteorologist Peter Coade.

After graduating from Kent State in 1960, he joined the weather team at Westinghouse Broadcasting-owned KYW-TV (now WKYC-TV) in Cleveland a year later; while at KYW-TV, Goddard worked alongside sports anchor Jim Graner. Goddard was one of several employees of KYW-TV who agreed to move to WRCV-TV in Philadelphia in June 1965, after Westinghouse was allowed by the FCC to reverse a station trade with NBC in 1956 based on coercion in order for Westinghouse to retain their NBC affiliations; the KYW calls also moved back to Philadelphia. However, Goddard did not take a liking to Philadelphia and returned to Cleveland several months later. In 1966, Goddard became the chief meteorologist at WJW-TV, where he would work for the remainder of his career.

Like her father, Kim is an animal advocate. She studied Vet Medicine at Penn Foster. She also went to Kent State University for a degree in Graphic Arts as per her Linkedln.

She lists her workplace as Global Animal Advocate as per her Facebook.

Dick Goddard Cause of Death

FOX 8 meteorologist Dick Goddard, a man with a warm smile, a fierce intellect, and always a place in his big heart for any animal in need, lived much of his life as a legend in his hometown – yet never forgot his humble beginnings.

Dick’s daughter, Kim, told FOX 8 News her father passed away Tuesday morning. He was 89 years old.

“I’ve been so lucky,” he said, during a wide-ranging interview in 2015, “and people have been so good to me.”

An only child, Dick was the center of attention for his parents – Vachel Goddard, a railroad mechanic from southern Ohio, and the former Doris Dickerhoof. Neither of his parents had finished grade school, but Dick cherished them and learned a lot from them – including a passionate, lifelong love of animals.

“Any animal that showed up on our farm there near Greenberg, I said, ‘Mom, can we keep it?’ and usually it was yes, but the cow I had to give back.”

Fox 8 General Manager Paul Perozeni released the following statement:

It is with great sadness that I share the news that our beloved friend Dick Goddard has passed away. There is no way to measure his contributions to our television station or our community.

Like most of Northeast Ohio, I grew up watching Dick and still have the picture I took with him when I was eight years old. Simply put, WJW-TV is the house that Dick Goddard built. For more than half a century he was Cleveland’s weatherman. His primary job as the longest-running meteorologist on any local television station in history is now etched in the Guinness Book of World Records.

But Dick’s greatest legacy lies beyond our building here on Dick Goddard Way. His tireless work advocating for animals throughout our community, state, and country, is what Dick would want to be remembered for more than anything else. His love of animals and love of our viewers was never more on display than at the yearly Woollybear Festival.

Our deepest condolences go out to his daughter Kim who has been such an amazing caretaker these past few years.

Over the next few days, there will be many tributes and memories shared. We will continue to honor his memory and carry his legacy, and we will never forget him.
