She formerly worked as a teacher at Des Moines Public Schools from August 2013 until July 2016. From 2007 until 2013, Mary worked as a Production Assimilation Coordinator at the Lutheran Church of Hope. From 2005 until 2007, she worked as the facilities manager and class planner at SportsPlex West.

She served as a site supervisor for Youth & Shelter Services from August 2003 until August 2005. She worked as a site coordinator at Marshalltown Community Schools from August 2000 until August 2003.

Anthony, Allen’s brother, was born on May 3, 1994, and is also a former football player. The two brothers are around a year apart in age. Anthony received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Health from the University of Iowa in 2016. Since January 2023, he has served as the Applied Sport Science Coordinator and Assistant Director for Football Sports Performance at Stanford University.

Anthony served as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at Iowa State University Athletics Department in 2016 and then at Colorado State University in 2017. In 2018, he started working as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Central Methodist College in Missouri.
