Keren Jane Woodward is an English vocalist who co-founded the girl group Bananarama with Sara Dallin and Siobhan Fahey. The trio’s version of “Venus” reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. Woodward and Dallin are the only continuing members of Bananarama, having been a part of the band since 1979.
Woodward is a classically trained pianist who has performed in choirs and amateur plays with Dallin, whom she has known since childhood. Woodward left school to work as a pensions clerk at the BBC in Portland Place, London.
Woodward founded Bananarama with Dallin and Fahey in 1981, and their first single “Aie a Mwana” was released. They went on to go on a run of UK top ten hits and topped the US charts with “Venus” in 1986. Fahey left the band in 1988 and was succeeded by Jacquie O’Sullivan who left the band in 1991.
Woodward and Dallin have been performing as a duo since 1991. They briefly reunited with Fahey in April 2017 and won the Glamor Icon Award in June 2017. The trio toured the UK in November and December 2017, as well as North America in February 2018. In August 2018 they played their final dates as a trio.
In the mid-1980s, Woodward was in a relationship with model David Scott-Evans, with whom she had a son, Thomas, on December 31, 1986.
Andrew Ridgeley, a former Wham! the member began dating Woodward in 1990. They lived with her son in a converted 15th-century barn in Wadebridge, North Cornwall. In November 2017, they broke up.
