Jim Leyland, the famous Major League Baseball manager, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday night. This honor was bestowed to him by a 16-member group known as the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee for Managers, Executives, and Umpires, which meets every three years. Leyland received 15 votes out of a possible 16. Former player and manager Lou Piniella just missed admission into the Hall of Fame for the second time, falling short by one vote.

On Sunday evening, the Hall of Fame announced the vote results. Leyland shared a sweet moment after getting the call, tweeting a photo of himself in his bedroom with his wife, Katie. He finished his managerial career with a regular-season record of 1,769-1,728 (.506) and a playoff record of 44-40 (.524). Before becoming a manager, he played seven seasons in minor league baseball as a catcher and third baseman from 1964 to 1970.
