Joseph Beck – Florida Man Shoots ‘Friend’ While Pistol-Whipping Him in Argument Over Pool Pump

A Florida sheriff’s department credited tips from the public leading to the arrest of a man who shot and killed his friend while pistol whipping him over a missing pool pump.

Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said deputies were called to the scene of the shooting at a home in St. Cloud on Saturday and found Joseph Beck with a gunshot wound. He was sitting in his parked vehicle in the driveway.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect, identified as Joshua Miller, walk up to Beck’s car yelling, “Where’s my pool pump?” Miller walked up to Beck’s car, opened the door, and began pistol whipping him with the gun he had in his hand.

As he was beating the victim, Lopez said, the camera recorded the sound of a gunshot.

“As soon as the gun goes off, Mr. Miller takes off running,” the sheriff said.

Deputies launched a search and, with the help of tips from the public, found Miller a few hours later at a home not far away. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder and burglary. Miller confessed, Lopez said.

“The moral of the story is, don’t pistol whip somebody,” he said. ” … If you don’t know how to properly handle a firearm, you shouldn’t be holding one.”

Miller has a “pretty extensive” criminal history, the sheriff said, and his victim was the father of three.

Brittany Harrell, the mother of those three children, told WOFL that Miller and her ex-husband were co-workers and good friends.

“They actually, not even two or three days ago, Josh and Joey were posting pictures with my three kids, saying they were having a good time. It just doesn’t make any sense to me,” she said.

Harrell said the children are struggling with their father’s death, but now, at least, there’s a chance at justice.
