John Brimelow is the husband of the late American journalist, Bobbie Battista, who was a former CNN anchor. Bobbie Battista was one of the original anchors of CNN Headline News when the network launched in 1981.
Bobbie Battista, one of the original anchors of CNN Headline News and a veteran of various anchor jobs at CNN over two decades, died on Tuesday in Davenport, Iowa, where she lived. She was 67.
A family spokesman said the cause was cervical cancer.
After joining Headline News for its launch in 1982, Ms. Battista was promoted in 1988 to the parent Cable News Network, where she anchored coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, the gulf war and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bobbie Battista died on March 3, 2020, after a four year battle with cervical cancer. Wendy Guarisco a family spokeswoman announced her death.
John Brimelow said in a statement, “Bobbie was the consummate trouper in her struggle with cancer, she was courageous and fearless in her battle and thoughtful for all the others in her life even as she fought through the pain. My dear partner of 25 years of marriage has cut her earthly bonds and is now in peace.”

David P. Gelles, an executive producer of CNN political and special events programming, also announced the news of Battista’s death on Twitter, remembering her 20-year career at the network.
“Battista was one of the original CNN Headline News anchors when the network launched in 1981,” Gelles wrote. “She anchored several news programs on CNN including ‘TalkBack Live.’ ”

He has one daughter. Bobbie Battista earned a bachelor’s degree in radio, television, and film production at Northwestern University, and after beginning her career at a radio station in Raleigh, North Carolina, Bobbie Battista moved on to be an anchor, reporter, and producer with WRAL-TV. She joined CNN in 1981.
During her 20-year career with the cable news company, she anchored numerous programs on CNN, CNN International, and CNN Headline News.
In 2001, she recounted some of the difficult moments in history that she covered as an anchor in her 20 years at CNN.
“Whether the Challenger explosion, the assassination attack on Reagan, the Gulf War, certainly this terrorist attack. Those were memorable from the anchor desk,” Battista said. “As far as TalkBack, we’ve had some serious shows, and some fun shows. If I had to pick, I’d say I liked Free for All Fridays the best.”
