Bailey’s main look as Ariel begins when she investigates the ocean and fans see her point of view as she swims among fish and sea turtles. At one point in the trailer, Ariel inadvertently tracks down a deleted boat. She will peek inside when she suddenly knocks herself out. Meanwhile, “Part of Your Reality” reaches its climax, and fans can finally see and hear Bailey’s take on the Disney model tune.

The film also stars Jonah Hauer-Lord as Ruler Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as Lord Triton, with Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian the crab, Jacob Tremblay as Wallow, and Awkwafina as Abandon.

“Halle, you were completely amazing!” Benson wrote in an Instagram story alongside a photo of Bailey at the weekend Disney D23 exhibit. “I am SO happy for you and your great show as Ariel. It was wonderful celebrating with your family here at #d23expo and the wonderful boss, Loot Marshall… I am so grateful for our friendship of over 35 years. Thank you so much for making such an awesome movie!!”

Bailey reposted the message on her Accounts and replied, “Thanks honey… this means a lot to me coming from you! You had Ariel captivated for us.

Benson completed the exchange by expressing his gratitude to the singer-performer and sending her “lots of love.”

ET caught up with Bailey on Assortment’s Force of Youthful Hollywood last month, where she opened up about the specific scene from The Little Mermaid that brought her to tears in the first audition.

“It was the recurring one that I saw… that was the next one that I cried at,” Bailey said. “It’s ‘Part of Your Reality’ segment 2, later in the movie, where she’s in the stone.”

“I’m really surprised,” she added of her commitment to the effort. “That was the head. [emotional] second for me. Bailey went on to portray her translation of Ariel as “fun, excited, and reverent,” before sharing what it means to her to play Dark Disney’s second princess.

“Basically, I trust people will love it,” he said. “I trust my amazing younger relatives, sisters, cousins, my family, my neighborhood, from the perspective of oh and I say, ‘Prepare to get your head blown off. We can also be princesses. This is amazing'”. The Little Mermaid will be released in theaters on May 26, 2023.
