Jim Lucas Wiki – Jim Lucas Biography
Indiana State Representative Jim Lucas was arrested Wednesday, May 31, after allegedly driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. Wish Tv reported that Lucas, 58, was booked into the Jackson County Jail Wednesday morning on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
In a statement to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, police said that around midnight, Jim Lucas crashed his vehicle on Interstate 65 while under the influence of alcohol and fled the scene. The Indiana State Police spokesman said that soon after, officers found Lucas’s vehicle at a different location. Lucas, who was found nearby, was taken into custody.
Authorities, who have yet to release details about Lucas’s toxicology report, said Lucas was released at 7:53 a.m. Wednesday after posting $705 bond. Shortly after his release from prison, Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb said it has not yet been determined whether Lucas will continue to serve his constituency after the accident. Holcomb noted that the general assembly will decide whether the Indiana representative will face repercussions for the incident:
“I hope that he receives the help that he needs and that will be decided by the General Assembly. If he was, there would be a process if it happened in the executive branch that we would follow, but I will not prejudge the outcome before he is offered his day in court.”
Jim Lucas has been embroiled in multiple scandals over the years.
Jim Lucas, the Republican state representative, has served in District 69, which includes parts of Bartholomew, Jackson, Washington and Scott counties since he was elected in 2012.
Lucas, a US Marine Corps veteran, served on the Seymour City Council before being elected to office in 2012. He also owns a small business, The Awning Guy, Inc, which sells clothes at Seymour.
According to multiple reports, the recent arrest is not the first time that Jim Lucas has been involved in a troubling situation. Lucas is known for criticizing racially controversial social media posts that have drawn a strong reaction from people, including the governor of Indiana.

In 2020, Jim Lucas was fired from two committee positions and a leadership role on the committee after posting a racist meme on Facebook. At the time, he defended the posts and dismissed accusations that they were racist. He said:
“This is something that has been blown so far out of proportion and when we see what’s happening in the country, it needs to be fixed. And the easiest way to fix it is to reach out to people. Both incidents (social media posts), were not racist. And All the vitriol that came from that, that shocked me as much as anyone.”
In 2022, Lucas faced criticism for a social media post that included a Nazi quote from Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, a trusted friend of Adolf Hitler.
Shortly thereafter, CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center posted a letter on Facebook condemning Lucas’s post. Lucas is also a supporter of the second amendment law and author of bills to arm teachers in schools.
