Jim Kiick Wiki – Biography
Jim Kiick (born James Forrest Kiick) was an American football player. He played as a running back for seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins, two seasons with the Denver Broncos and one with the Washington Redskins.
Kiick led Wyoming in rushing three years in a row and was inducted into their athletics Hall of Fame in 1996. Miami drafted Kiick out of Wyoming with a fifth-round pick in the 1968 AFL-NFL draft. He became a starter as a rookie and led the AFL in rushing touchdowns in 1969 with nine.
Kiick was part of a three-headed backfield with Pro Football Hall of Fame fullback Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris during the peak of the Dolphins’ dynasty in the late 1960s and 1970s.
He made the American Football League All-Star team in his first two seasons. He had two touchdowns for the ’72 Dolphins in the AFC Championship Game and also scored in the Super Bowl victory that capped the team’s 17-0 season under Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Don Shula, who died May 4, 2020, at age 90.
In 1975, Kiick, Csonka, and future Hall of Famer Paul Warfield left the Dolphins for the World Football League (WFL) to play for the Memphis Southmen. The WFL folded, and Kiick returned to the NFL for his final two seasons, playing for Denver and Washington.
He finished with his playing career with 3,759 yards rushing and 33 total touchdowns in 115 games.
