In sad news, R&B vocalist Jesse Powell has died. He was generally known for his song “You” and the Bout It collection, which sold gold. Powell, whose focus was mostly during the 1990s, died at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday, and no reason for death has been given so far. The news was confirmed by his younger sister, Tamara Powell of R&B outfit Trina and Tamara. She was 51 years old.
“It is with overwhelming sadness that we declare the death of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles. The family requests protection at this time as we mourn the colossal misfortune and commend their unending legacy,” he posted.
He added that Powell loved music and had a very deep friendship with his fans, who also supported him throughout his career.
In another post, Tamara shared a pin of the late vocalist performing perhaps her most well-known song, “You.” “This voice! Besides being one of the most amazing male R&B singers, you were the best older brother ever,” she wrote in the caption, adding that she would miss him terribly as they were both exceptionally close.
Powell experienced a ’90s fantasy about being found when he caught the eye of a music maker at a nearby skill show. He was only 23 years old when “You” began climbing the charts in 1999. The song would go on to reach number 2 on the Billboard R&B and negative charts. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He would proceed to deliver four collections, the last one in 2003. That collection was called Jesse. In general, she remained aware that she stayed in music for the love of it and not for the money. Our condolences are with his loved ones at this time.
