Tragically Jennifer’s fiance Grant Imahara died of a brain aneurysm on July 13, 2020. Jennifer and Grant had been engaged since December 7, 2016. TMZ reported that he proposed at Clifton’s Cafeteria in downtown LA. Grant had been a regular on TV series Mythbusters, which airs on the Discovery Channel, since 2005.

The roboticist was known for Battlebots, Tabletop and as the host of White Rabbit Project. He also had starring roles as an actor, playing Hikaru Sulu in all 11 episodes of Star Trek Continues. The science-buff’s fiance posted a heartbreaking message on Twitter after his death: “I haven’t found the words.

While Imahara popped the question to his longtime Jennifer Newman in 2016. Imahara proposed to Newman with a 1.56-carat vintage ring while visiting Clifton’s Cafeteria in downtown Los Angeles.

He died on Monday, July 13, 2020, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter at the age of 49.

A representative for Discovery said in a statement: “We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant. He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.” According to SF Gate, Imahara died of a brain aneurysm.

Fellow former Mythbusters host Kari Byron tweeted on Monday, “Somedays I wish I had a time machine. ⁦@ToryBelleci @grantimahara.” Imahara replaced Scottie Chapman during the show’s third season to become part of the Discovery channel’s Build Team. He hosted the series with Byron and Tory Belleci through 2014.

Following the news of Imahara’s death, former Mythbuster‘s host Adam Savage tweeted, “I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.”
