A 43-year-old man is facing murder charges in the death of a woman whose charred remains are believed to have been found in a burn pit on a Texas property in 2019. Jeffery Lee Devorah, 43, is facing charges related to the death by Tiffany Lynette Garza, 37.

Lilly Morua, Garza’s mother, reported her missing on April 26, 2019, after she dropped off her daughter at a Dollar General. “I can’t sleep,” she told CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS. “I was just worried to my stomach.”

Investigators received a tip in July 2019 that Garza had been killed at 615 Bocawood Drive, about 30 miles south of San Antonio. It was a location where officers had responded prior to engaging the victim.

In an interview with investigators in an unrelated 2019 arrest, Devorah told investigators that Garza had been living there and said he knew nothing about her death or disappearance. During a three-day property search in July 2019, investigators discovered significant evidence of blood from the suspect and the victim at the home, authorities said.

Police combed through a burn pit behind the residence for two days, recovering enough human bones and burned bone fragments that DNA could not be recovered. DNA in the blood matched that of Garza’s mother and daughter, authorities said. Sheriff’s investigators believe she was murdered between March 28, 2019 and April 4, 2019.
