A 21-year-old man is expected to be charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of his former girlfriend and her sister inside an East Texas university residence hall, according to a report.
The shooting occurred inside the Pride Rock residence hall where the freshman lived, according to the news outlet.
Following witness tips and using surveillance footage, police arrested Smith at his home in Rowlett on Tuesday.
The suspect had been free on bond after allegedly assaulting Abbaney with a frying pan and a lamp on Jan. 27, when he also pulled out a knife before escaping, police told NBC 5.
Abbaney reported injuries to her head and eyes in the attack.

Abbaney reported injuries to her head and eyes in the attack.
Smith was freed Jan. 29 after posting $15,000 bond and an emergency protective order was issued on Abbaney’s behalf.
His rap sheet, which dates back four years, includes charges of evading arrest, theft and aggravated robbery.
Relatives told NBC 5 that Abbaney took her son when she drove Deja back to her dorm room Sunday, but it was late so they spent the night there.
The 2-year-old, who was grazed in the foot by a bullet, was treated and released to the custody of family members.
The family members questioned how Smith, who is not a student, gained access to the dorm.

University officials confirmed Tuesday that Deja was pursuing a bachelor of science in public health.
Police said “the shooting appears to be a targeted, isolated event,” though investigators have not yet revealed a motive.
The school said in a statement, “Our continued thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of the victims from this week’s tragedy.”
