Jacob Kersey Wiki, Biography
A Georgia police officer, Jacob Kersey, quit his job when authorities investigated him for posting “there is no such thing as gay marriage” on social media.
The 19-year-old police officer was placed in the Port Wentworth apartment before leaving the forces. However, the police officer has now stated that he believes he was pressured to resign from his job because of his Facebook post about gay marriage.
This all happened after, in a Facebook post, Jacob Kersey wrote:
“God designed marriage. Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That is why there is no such thing as gay marriage.”
He later claimed that his superiors flagged his post after an “anonymous complaint” reached them, which led to a warning. After that, Kersey was placed on paid administrative leave. This was all the result of Jacob not deleting the Facebook post.
However, as soon as he knew he could face dismissal, he was quick to hand in his resignation. At the moment, Jacob is consulting with a law firm and is reportedly contemplating taking legal action against the individuals involved.
Major Bradwick Sherrod sent a letter to Jacob Kersey explaining the law for same-sex marriage.
After the whole fiasco, Major Bradwick Sherrod sent a letter to Jacob Kersey, in which he addressed the department’s allegations against him and how the force “did not find sufficient evidence to establish a violation of any policy.”
However, he also said that his posts could raise “reasonable concerns” for the LGBTQ+ community.
In the letter, Major Bradwich said:
“As we have discussed above, please remember that if any posting on any of your social media platforms, or any other statement or action, renders you unable to perform, and you are deemed capable of performing, your job in a fair and equitable manner You could be fired.”
Major Bradwich also explained to Kersey that same-sex marriages have been legal in Georgia and throughout the US since 2015. During a meeting with the department, Jacob Kersey clarified that he did not want to resign as he felt yes. nothing bad. He said:
“I did nothing wrong, and they told me that. That’s why they didn’t fire me. They wanted me to go back to work, but they were trying to create a new department policy that would prevent me from saying something that someone somewhere might find offensive.”
This is not the first time that Jacob Kersey has expressed his views candidly on social media, as he has posted views of a similar nature in the past. However, at the time he claimed that the authorities warned him that if he continued to post such content, he would be fired. Therefore, he finally decided to quit.
Jacob Kersey also mentioned that he had several members of the department come up to him and tell him that he had done nothing wrong.
