Halyna Hutchins was a Ukrainian-American cinematographer and journalist credited with her work on more than 30 films, shorts, and television miniseries, including the films Archenemy, Darlin ‘, and Blindfire. She moved to Los Angeles, California to focus on filmmaking, taking on roles in production and fashion photography. In Los Angeles, she met Bob Primes [de], the cinematographer. The father of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins refuses to blame actor Alec Baldwin for the death of his daughter after he was shot with a prop gun on the set of the movie ‘Rust’ on Thursday, October 21.
Hutchins, 43, was fatally shot in the chest when Alec Baldwin shot him with a backup pistol. The cinematographer was huddled around a monitor lining up the next camera shot of her, with film director Joel Souza crouching behind her. It was day 12 of a 21-day shoot and Baldwin was preparing to film a scene where he pulls a pistol out of a holster. When Baldwin first removed the gun from its holster, he did so without incident, but when he did it again, he fired. A single bullet hit Hutchins before hitting Souza. Hutchins sadly died after being airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital following the incident. A police investigation into the accident is underway.
Hutchins’ grieving father has said he has no ill will against the Hollywood star and instead believes that the gunsmith team working on the film is to blame. Opening up for the first time since the tragedy, Anatoly Androsovych told The Sun: “We still can’t believe that Halyna is dead and that her mother is going crazy with grief. But I do not hold Alec Baldwin responsible, it is the responsibility of the props who handle the weapons. ”
He also revealed that Baldwin had been in contact with Hutchins’ husband, Matthew.
