Gloria Williams and Brian Coulter Arrested – Charged
The shocking discovery was made after the 15-year-old called 911 and disclosed the details to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). An autopsy of the eight-year-old boy’s body revealed that he died of homicide last year. Meanwhile, the children’s mother, Williams, lived just 15 minutes away, with Coulter at Westchase. The 15-year-old has reportedly been defending himself and his siblings thanks to the generosity of West Oaks Apartments neighbors, none of whom had any idea of his condition.
The eldest son finally broke down a year after being alone, setting the stage for the arrest of his mother. In a statement on October 24, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said: “A very horrible situation here, very tragic. I have been in this business for a long time and have never heard of a scenario like this, it really took me by surprise. “With the investigation still ongoing, we don’t know much, but we do have a basic timeline as set by HSCO.
Williams reportedly left the four children to fend for themselves in an apartment, and from time to time she would visit them to bring noodles, snacks and drinks. About six months ago, one of her neighbors, Erica Chapman, also started providing food. She said the 15-year-old refused cooked meals and only agreed to bring packaged fruit, pizza and snacks. Another neighbor, Trevor Thompson, revealed that the boy was “paranoid and afraid of being poisoned.”
They both fed the 15-year-old for months, completely unaware that he had a brother or a corpse in the next room. Thompson was first alerted to another boy’s idea only after the 15-year-old responded “The first pizza we ate” when asked if he liked the pizza Thompson had provided. “That made me wonder why he would say, ‘We’.” However, none of them called the authorities because they were unaware of the seriousness of the situation. “I didn’t want to push him away by asking him questions because I knew he was starving and needed food,” Chapman said.
However, in the end, the 15-year-old had enough. Shortly before calling 911 on October 24, he texted Williams saying that he “couldn’t take it anymore.” Police quickly arrived at the scene and discovered that the 15, 10 and 7-year-old boy was malnourished and that the younger brother had broken bones in his face. An autopsy of the eight-year-old boy’s body revealed that he died of multiple blunt force injuries. It is unclear how long exactly the child has been dead. A neighbor noticed a bad smell in the apartment 13 to 14 months ago, which, according to her, led to several complaints but no action.
On October 25, the couple were detained for the first time for questioning, but they were released without charge. On October 26 they were arrested and charged. Williams faces charges of injury to a child by omission, lack of medical care and lack of proper supervision. Coulter has been charged with murder. Court documents reveal that this is not the first time Williams has been charged with neglecting her children.
In 2019 and 2020, she was charged twice for failing to enroll her children in school, but they were later removed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They were last enrolled in school in May 2020. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is now seeking custody of the two children. Child Protective Services noted that they have a family history, but declined to elaborate. However, they confirmed that there was no active investigation at the time of the discovery.
“We are trying to identify the closest family members to determine exactly what happened and how we got to this point,” Sheriff Gonzalez said. It is not clear who the biological father of the children is. More details are expected to be available in the coming days, as the investigation continues. In a Facebook post, HSCO revealed that additional charges are expected to be filed and noted that both are currently in custody.
