“He would wake up at 5:30 in the morning every day to kiss me before I went to work,” his father told ABC News. “When I came, he was waiting for me at the station. He loved to swim”. That changed when a student began mercilessly bullying him until he took his own life.
“I have nothing to lose,” the father said. “My son is gone. So all I want now is justice for other children.” A GoFundMe page set up by the boy’s family had raised more than $14,000 as of Wednesday. “Bullying is responsible for the death of a 10-year-old boy!” says the page.
“Lukas was robbed of his future. He will never be able to graduate with his friends, make memories with his family, and have a life full of choice and adventure,” he continues. “His family and friends of his are heartbroken and beyond devastated.”
In a statement Wednesday, Peekskill school officials said they are awaiting the results of the investigation. “We remain deeply saddened by the loss of our Hillcrest student,” the statement said. “Our focus right now is to share our condolences with the student’s family and friends and to help our school community.”
In a separate statement, city officials said police will share the findings of the investigation when it is complete.
