The officers revealed that they had been informed that Mark had been seen loading a firearm in the boot of the family car the day before in a car park near Longbridge.

But the family had actually been visiting a toy store, where Charlie had bought a toy as a gift. Gemma explained: ‘We were visiting the boy’s grandmother, who has just had a liver transplant. ‘We were a little early for visiting time so we decided to take the kids to a toy store and treat them like they had a hard time.
“Charlie had chosen a Nerf gun, but he didn’t want it to have something that would shoot pellets, so I steered it towards the cowboy gun, as I thought it was a little softer.” ‘As soon as we got back to the car he asked to take a look at it so Mark took it out of the boot, unwrapped it, and gave it to Charlie.
“When the police told us they had a report of a firearm in the car, we realized immediately what had happened.” Charlie went to get his toy to show it to the officers, who immediately recorded the mix-up. Gemma, who runs a diet consultancy firm, said: “Although it scared us, we are very pleased that the police have properly investigated.”
‘We know that no one was in danger, but they didn’t know that our children were not in danger. ‘They were really professional and couldn’t have been more apologetic. They still asked to look in the trunk of our car, so they did their job really thoroughly.
‘It’s just a funny story now, although I had to go and talk to all our neighbors to reassure them that we hadn’t done anything wrong! ‘The two boys think it’s funny now, and they couldn’t wait to tell all their friends at school.
‘We’ll keep the cowboy gun for a long time, but only in the house!’ She contacted Warwickshire Police for comment.
