He said his co-workers identified the suspect as Gary of Frankfort, who worked the day shift at the plant, and said he remained in custody pending charges.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a shooting around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the NHK facility located at State Road 28 and I-65. When officers arrived, they found two women who died in the shooting. The women were identified as Promise Mays, 21, and Pamela Sledd, 62. The sheriff’s office says the two are granddaughter and grandmother.
The bureau said officers located the suspect vehicle traveling east on State Road 28 toward the city of Frankfort. A brief chase ended with the suspect vehicle crashing inside the highway construction area at State Road 28 and Nickle Plate Street. The suspect was detained by officers, without further incident. The suspect has been identified as Gary.
The shooting occurred outside NHK Seating of America Inc.’s new location. The company recently completed the expansion of its manufacturing operations in Clinton County, building a new facility that tripled the company’s footprint. The bureau said the shooting occurred during a shift change, and the two victims were on their way to work at the time of the shooting. The bureau believes that the suspect and the victims knew each other and were all employees of the facility.
I am deeply angry and shocked at the violent crime that took place in our community this afternoon. This behavior will simply not be tolerated.

We are working feverishly with the Clinton County Attorney’s Office to gather evidence and statements so that we can move forward with the charges in the coming days. I want to express my condolences to the family of Ms. Sledd and Ms. Mays. I pray that they are in God’s hands tonight and that their families may find comfort in the days and weeks to come.
For NHK employees who witnessed this horrible scene, our chaplains will be available, as will the advice provided by NHK. Our hearts go out to all of you. To my deputies: ‘the wicked flee when no one pursues them, but the righteous are brave like a lion (Proverbs 28)’ … This afternoon they chased evil and chased it to an unknown place, where they detained it safely and without any harm to you. or others. I am honored to represent such courage and professionalism.

I want to personally thank all the other agencies that supported the Sheriff’s Office this afternoon: The Salvation Army, ISP, FBI, ATF, Coroner’s Office, EMS, Fire, and our Jerry’s and Miller’s first responders. Thank you to our chaplains for their response to our scene and to our correctional staff for their professionalism in receiving the suspect.
