Who is Garima Sethi? Garima grew up in the suburbs of New Delhi, India, and had married Bhavye, an Indonesia-based Lion Air pilot, in July 2016. Bhavye had also spent her teenage years in India, but moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2011. The couple had just been married for about 18 months before misfortune struck on October 29, 2018. Garima’s day began like any other on that game-changing morning. After Bhavye left for work, she expected a call from him a couple of hours after the fact that she had landed. However, the call he received told him that the plane disappeared from radar shortly after departure.

The underlying examination showed that the Boeing 737 Max 8 had a faulty sensor that caused an incorrect reading that said the plane was decelerating. MCAS programming continued to push the plane’s nose down while the pilots attempted to bring it back up. However, Bhavye and the other official did not know about the new programming. The plane collided with the ocean following it, causing everyone to pass.

About 90 days after the accident, Garima encouraged Lion Air and Indonesian specialists to ground the particular Boeing model until safety concerns were addressed. However, at the time, the specialists were pleased with Boeing’s clarification that the plane was protected and they conveyed the same message to everyone. In March 2019, another 737 Max 8 crashed minutes after takeoff due to similar scheduling issues.

Garima accepted that the following accident would have been avoided if specialists had heeded his pleas, adding: “We tried to do our part, but no one listened to us.” After the accident, Garima learned from Bhavye’s associates that the pilots had not received any training for the new MCAS programming and another of his better half’s flights experienced difficulties with a faulty sensor.

While he did not legitimately follow Boeing, he expected fairness and that trusted people would take responsibility for his mistakes. Garima, who used to work as a sanctioned accountant, later moved to Australia and earned her postgraduate degree in business data frameworks. Today, she works as the director of an organization located in Adelaide, Australia.
