High-profile Hollywood therapist Amie Harwick—a former Playboy model who was once engaged to comedian Drew Carey—plunged to her death during a confrontation with an ex-boyfriend, the LAPD said.
Police arrested Gareth Pursehouse, 41, on suspicion of murder after Harwick, 37, was found gravely injured on the ground under a third-floor balcony at her Hollywood Hills home early Saturday. She later died at the hospital.
Harwick, 38, had recently “expressed fear” of 6-foot-4-inch Pursehouse, but a restraining order she obtained against him had expired, authorities said.
A statement from police said Harwick’s roommate told officers that Pursehouse had broken in and was assaulting her. The roommate jumped a wall to escape and run for help, and when cops arrived at the home, they found Harwick.
Suspect Arrested and Charges
The suspect was identified as Harwick’s former boyfriend 41-year-old Gareth Pursehouse, who is being held on a $2 million bail.
Officers responded to a call of a “woman screaming” in the 2000 block of Mound Street in Hollywood Hills around 1:16 a.m. Saturday, according to authorities. Police said a roommate told officers that the victim was being assaulted in the house.

The victim was found unresponsive below a third story balcony with significant injuries authorities say are “consistent with a fall.”
She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police said they discovered “possible evidence of a struggle” and signs of an intruder.

Investigators also said in a news release that detectives “learned that victim had recently expressed fear about a former boyfriend and had previously filed a restraining order” against him, which had since expired. LAPD says Harwick saw Pursehouse two weeks ago.
Harwick was formerly in a relationship with comedian Drew Carey. A rep for Carey confirmed their engagement in Feb. 2018, according to Entertainment Tonight.
