Charges and Arrested

A friend who bought weaponry for Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts has been sentenced 32 months in prison, law enforcement authorities said.

“Kollie will forever be connected to the tragic events of August 4, 2019, in Dayton, Ohio,” said US Attorney David M. DeVillers in a statement announcing the sentencing Thursday. “He bought the upper receiver to the AM-15, a 100-round double drum magazine and body armor for Betts.

“We will chase down the origins of all weapons used in violence and hold all accountable for their crimes,” he went on.

Kollie helped Betts assemble the AM-15 used in the mass shooting and practiced firing the rifle at a shooting range in town, authorities said.

Law enforcement agents first interviewed Kolli on the day of the shooting spree. During searches of his home, they discovered a pistol and “additional weapons” alongside marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, drug paraphernalia and growing equipment for the mushrooms, feds said in a news release.

Authorities said Kollie knowingly lied on a form when he bought the pistol found at his home. An ATF form he filled out during the purchase asked if he was an unlawful user of or addict to marijuana or any other controlled substance — to which Kollie falsely answered no.

Investigation Report

Betts, who was shot dead by police, was one of two gunmen to commit mass shootings that weekend. Just 13 hours before his rampage, a rifle-toting man in El Paso, Texas, opened fired in a busy Walmart, killing 20 people and injuring 26.
