The cancer has spread to her lungs and pelvis, and doctors have said she may only have two to three years to live. Estelle, from Hindley, has undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and two major surgeries and is now looking to travel abroad for additional treatment, reports the M.E.N.

She is trying to raise £ 15,000 through a Go Fund Me page to search for alternative treatments at various cancer centers in Mexico and Texas. She said: “I was first diagnosed at 22 after I was laid on the floor in my room in pain. I just couldn’t move and was rushed to the hospital where they first thought I had pelvic inflammatory disease.

“I went to the pharmacy to get my medication and I just bought an ovarian cancer brochure. I went home, read it, and told my mom that she knew that’s what she had. She had all the symptoms of the prospect. Three months later, a scan showed that she had a large tumor, the size of a watermelon, which was later removed by Christie in Manchester. ”

Life seemed to be improving after she had her tumors removed, but only four years later, she received the devastating news that she has returned. Doctors informed her that her tumor had returned to her ovaries and had spread to her lungs and pelvis. After visiting her GP last November complaining of abdominal pain, Estelle was referred for an urgent ultrasound which showed an irregular tumor up to 12 cm in length.

After undergoing further research, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the second time, with an advanced disease affecting the liver and lungs. She has since undergone two major surgeries, the removal of her left lung and a mastectomy, but she feels that her second diagnosis could have been detected earlier.

Speaking from her bed at Wythenshawe Hospital, where she is also being treated for sepsis, she said: “I don’t want anyone else to have to go through this. I knew my own body and I knew something was wrong. Within a few months of the removal of the first tumor, I began to have all the symptoms again and felt that something was not right.

“By the time I was diagnosed, 16 months after my first follow-up appointment, I was already growing and aggressive and had spread to my lungs and pelvis. I was afraid that I wouldn’t even make Christmas last year with my partner and my little girl. I cannot go back to aggressive chemotherapy and have been looking for alternative treatments abroad, including chemotherapy and low toxicity immunotherapy.

“There are also trials in Texas that are not available anywhere else. I am desperate to go somewhere else and try other options. I have a lot of fighting left and I want to try all my options right now, I can’t imagine life without my family. It has been four agonizing years with her partner Mike and her daughter Brooke, who is only 18 months old. Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed that they are aware of the case.
