Ernesto Valverde has been the manager of the club for quite some time. On Thursday, Athletic Bilbao announced that he had signed a one-year deal and could take over as head coach for a third time.
Since his contract expired in January 2020, Valverde has been out of a job. He has been the head of Barcelona lately, driving the group to two association titles and the Copa del Rey.
Valverde says it is an honor to be Athletic’s mentor. “I really appreciate being a part of it. I know it means a lot to Bilbao and to many different urban communities around the world.
“The main goal is to make the fans happy with the group and part of it. We will work together as strengths for a.”
The 58-year-old was the head coach of Athletic from 2003 to 2005 and from 2013 to 2017. In 2015 he drove the group to the Supercopa de Espaa.
The club has always lost a prize in the 21st 100 years. It only chooses players born or raised in the Basque Country. When Athletic finished eighth in LaLiga last season, they didn’t make it to European occasions.
