Before committing to Oklahoma, the young athlete had offers from various institutions, including Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC. Unfortunately, with the resignation of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, the quarterback chose to play at USC instead.

Nelson Sr. made a joke about how the ancient automobile, called The Dragon, would break down and refuse to start when the pastor needed to pick up his children. The pastor compliments the improvement over their untrustworthy “The Dragon.”
