Emily Obtuse became a specialist horseback rider to prepare for her lead role in The English — and so did her family. The London native, 39, drilled down into her filming experience for the six-episode Amazon Prime drama at the show’s New York City debut Wednesday, revealing that husband John Krasinski and their youngsters, Hazel, 8, and Violet, 6, were also able to partake in some time on location.

“They learned how to do the pony and buggy,” Obtuse, who went through months getting acclimated on a pony for the show, tells Individuals. “Simply practice a great deal with the goal that they don’t think you’re a total tenderfoot, because they can smell it,” she adds about her own riding education.

“They can smell your fear,” she continues. “I rode for 90 days before we started and that assisted me with feeling more at ease because individuals back then they were like one with the pony.

So you had to kind of know a great deal.” Gruff served as a chief maker on the Amazon Prime series, which follows the account of Lady Cornelia Locke, an English aristocrat who travels to the American midwest in the 1890s to chase down the enemy of her son. Inspired by Spaghetti Westerns, the dramatic story “just captured my heart,” Obtuse tells Individuals.

“I just felt profoundly and each content [of this show] that came to me thusly was so perfect and so moving. I just couldn’t wait to witness what was gonna next.”

Sadly for Gruff and the remainder of the cast and group, waiting was the one thing they all had to do because of the pandemic, which pushed filming back various times.

“We were always shooting in Spain however we had to push because of Coronavirus and that was the anxious part because this show was so important to me,” Gruff tells Individuals. “I didn’t want it to get past us because of Coronavirus — we had to endlessly push. So we realize that Spain was gonna be the best location for it. It offered us all the vistas we wanted. Incredible landscapes.”

“It’s been extremely moving,” Obtuse adds about the experience of filming with co-lead Chaske Spencer in the Western. Along with Kimberly Guerrero, the former Dusk star is one of many The English cast individuals to come from Native American clans.

“I think everyone who endorsed on to this realized they were a part of something elevated and special,” adds Gruff. “It was the very best atmosphere I’ve at any point experienced on set.”

Says Spencer, 47, “She’s simply a really professional maker, actor, and she was extremely passionate about this undertaking.” “I felt a ton of help from her. She’s simply a really pleasant person. She’s really cool.”
