Cowan competed in the first-class profession in Yorkshire sometime between 1953 and 1962, acquiring his cap in 1960. The fast, left-arm medium bowler took 276 first-class wickets and was essential for three County Championship-winning crews toward the backend of his vocation in Yorkshire. The Yorkshire and Surrey players will pay tribute to Cowan before playing on day two of their LV= Insurance County Championship game in Scarborough by noting the silence of the letter.
