Diana grew up on Tybee Island, Georgia with her parents, Elizabeth and Anthony John Scarwid, and her three brothers. She finished high school in her hometown, upon which she moved to New York, with a desire to become an actress, enrolling at Pace University and The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, finishing her studies as an honor student.

Diana’s career started with several minor roles in such TV series as “Police Woman”, then “Starsky and Hutch” and “Kojak”, all in 1976.
