A 64-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a married couple in their thirties at a house in Newhaven.Derek Martin, aka Derek Glenn, from Brighton, was arrested in connection with the tragedy and has since been charged with two counts of murder.Officers were called to a property on the grounds of Newhaven Cemetery near Lewes shortly after 7pm. m. Friday, where the bodies of a 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were found.Their family have been informed and are receiving support, according to a statement by Sussex Police.Martin has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 June.

Detective Chief Inspector Kimball Edey, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crimes Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of the two victims at this extremely difficult time.”While our work to establish the exact circumstances of what happened is ongoing, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter.I would like to thank the public for their understanding and remind them not to speculate or comment on anything that could jeopardize our investigation in the meantime.”An autopsy is scheduled for next week and we won’t give any further details in the meantime.
