Coronji Calhoun Sr., who played Halle berryTyrell Musgrove’s son in the 2001 film Monster ball, died of congestive heart failure and lung problems on October 13. He was 30 years old and his death was confirmed by his mother. Berry and Monster ball Producer Lee Daniels has contributed to a GoFundMe page, both with donations of $ 3,394 each.
“We are impressed by the outpouring of love that the Coronji community and adoptive family have shown during our grieving process,” his mother, Theresa C. Bailey, wrote on the page Wednesday. “As we close this chapter, we ask that in your memory of him, remember to love your neighbor as yourself, because that is what Coronji did for his entire community.”
Calhoun’s only acting merit was The monster ball. In the movie, he was Tyrell, the constantly berated son of Berry’s main character, Leticia Musgrove. He was cast in an opening casting in Louisiana. In the movie, he dies after a serious accident.
Monster ball earned Berry an Oscar for Best Actress, the first woman of color to win in the main category.
WWL-TV reported that Calhoun was one of six children. He is survived by a 10-year-old son and a 13-year-old stepson.
