The victim used the Apple tracking device to locate the general location of his bag, which contained £340 worth of items, while his family saw it advertised on Facebook and reported it to the police. Officers traced the profile of the woman selling the bag and assisted in her address, a court was told. He immediately told them who was responsible for the robbery, and Cragen was tracked down and arrested.
The thief, who has more than 200 offenses on his record, was due to appear in Newcastle Magistrate Court earlier this month but failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Cragen, of Arthur’s Hill, Newcastle, appeared in the dock in custody to plead guilty to robbery.

The court heard that some of the items were returned, while others were not, and the victim was left with £286 out of his pocket. Ms McKelvin also said Bates, 37, of the Houston court in Elswick, had previously admitted to handling stolen property and was awaiting sentencing next month.

In a statement, the victim said: “This robbery caused me a lot of stress and discomfort due to the knowledge that a person unknown to me took my personal items, which included my home address details, along with my house keys.” . “This caused a great deal of anxiety that people would be able to access my address.”
