The murder of Christie Mullins in 1975 was one of the most horrific murders ever committed in Clintonville, Ohio. The 14-year-old was beaten to death in front of a shopping center near her home.
Despite the manner in which the individual was captured and sentenced for the crime, he was subsequently released due to formative issues. The case went unexplained for nearly 40 years until relatives of the real killer, Henry Newell Jr., reached out and alerted police to his misdeeds.
However, Newell had died by then and the victim’s family had lost their last chance at equity. Henry, who was initially a keen observer of the wrongdoing, evidently admitted to his loved ones.
It took too long for someone to come forward and talk about the Christie Mullins homicide, but the terrifying subtleties were only discovered after the investigation was closed. ID’s Dead Days of Summer will bring the story back in its next episode, airing on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 9pm ET.
This article makes sense of the basic parts of the homicide case that you should know about before the episode airs.
1) Christie Mullins’ family has questions about Henry Newell Jr. When Henry Newell Jr. detailed the incident to police, he claimed to have seen the would-be executioner hit Christie Mullins with the fatal blow before leaving the scene. Newell brought Jack Carmen, a person with formative disabilities, to the police. In 1977, Carmen was deemed not to be legitimately at fault at all.
Christie’s family had long thought of Henry Newell Jr. for the homicide, and he was finally perceived as the guilty party in 2014, a year after his passing and nearly forty years after Christie’s homicide. The relatives of the executioner of thought approached and affirmed that Newell had informed them about his participation in the 1975 crime.
One of Mullins’ sisters, Melanie Miller, said: “We knew it was Henry Newell from the beginning. We won’t be consumed by it, however we would need to know why he was rarely charged.”
The mill operator continued: “We were very much like another family. You know, five kids growing up, and this didn’t happen locally. We were just an ordinary family that was shocked.”
2) Henry Newell Jr.’s niece has confessed her uncle’s offenses. Pam Brown, Henry Newell Jr.’s niece, emerged after her death from cell rupture in the lungs in 2013, confessing to her misdeeds. She informed authorities that Henry had admitted to her that she had killed Christie, who was 14 at the time. Brown was only sixteen at the time.
According to Brown, Newell described the terrifying intricacies of the event that occurred on August 23, 1975. Newell claimed to be a neighbor of Mullins, who was perched on a railing behind the Graceland shopping center. They exchanged a few words before moving into a wooded area behind the mall. Mullins, according to Newell, turned down his turn and things turned for the better.

Brown proceeded to describe the details, saying:
“He professed to have tied her up at the time. He said she wouldn’t stop screaming, so he grabbed a two-by-four and started hitting her in the head.”
she proceeded,
“He reached out to my Aunt Pam and my father, who was in bed with my mother at the time, and asked them to catch him and let them know that they found the body while they were climbing.”
Pam Brown expressed that everyone in the family knew about the homicide, however, they chose to remain silent due to a paranoid fear for their safety. Brown is upset by her prolonged silence. She proceeded to say,
“I just think the Mullins family should realize that I’ve been quiet for a long time and really think twice about it. More than anything, I think they should track the conclusion.
3) The authorities reconsidered the Christie Mullins case for a year before reaching a decision. Following an extensive investigation into the passing of Christie Mullins, specialists concluded during a serious press briefing that leading man Henry Newell Jr. could be considered capable. Mullins’ relatives and companions were present. According to Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Cold Case Investigation Team, the police had enough evidence to charge Newell, but at the time it was not important as an illness had already claimed his life in 2013.
