A federal prisoner admitted responsibility to the 2019 murder of Christian Maire on March 30, 2023. At the time of his death, Maire was serving a sentence at the Milan Correctional Institution for being the head of a global child exploitation ring.

Together with Jason Kechego and Adam Taylor Wright, two other convicts, Alex Castro was accused of second-degree murder. On January 2, 2019, they stabbed Christian Maire 28 times and hurled him down the prison’s stairs.

After being found guilty in 2018 of leading an international child exploitation ring, he was incarcerated for 40 years at the Milan Correctional Institute. According to reports, Christian Maire was attacked one month after receiving a 40-year prison term.

According to Mercury News, Maire was the mastermind behind a child exploitation network that preyed on adolescent girls by pretending to be adolescent boys online. Hundreds of children were allegedly groomed by Maire to engage in indecent behaviours for the camera, which were then posted online.

In a statement, authorities said that Alex Castro, Jason Kechego, and Adam Taylor Wright planned to murder Maire soon after his conviction and booking into the Milan Correctional Institute. The inmates allegedly entered Maire’s cell at the detention facility, kicked and stabbed him repeatedly, and then threw him down a set of metal stairs.

The suspects were also charged with assaulting a police officer who intervened to stop Maire from being attacked. For the murder of Maire, Castro, who was already in prison for 42 years after being found guilty of federal narcotics trafficking in 2017, might spend the rest of his life behind bars. Two other prisoners were sentenced last year after they both entered guilty pleas to charges in the second degree.

According to Fox News, Kechego, who was already serving a 10-year term for having a stolen gun, received an additional 28-year sentence for his involvement in Maire’s stabbing. In this instance, Adam Taylor Wright received a sentence of 24 years and 4 months. Castro admitted guilt to a charge of second-degree murder shortly after, according to Detroit US Attorney Dawn Ison.Castro will be sentenced on July 28, 2023, according to Mercury News.
